20-HOUR MARITAL PROPERTY MEDIATION TRAINING WORKSHOP
MEDIATION OF ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF FAMILY LAW CASES

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Our 20-Hour Marital Property Mediation Training workshop for professionals are held at the offices of Mediation Matters in Bethesda, Maryland. This workshop is designed to provide both hands-on training and a clear framework to enable participants to work effectively with parties involved in the mediation of economic aspects of divorce.

Who should attend?
This workshop is for anyone interested in learning about mediating the economic aspects of family law cases. The only prerequisite for this training, designed for both new and experienced mediators, is simply that you have already completed a forty-hour mediation training. If you are already mediating, the more experience you bring to the training, the more you will get from it. If you are just starting up, this will help you get going.

What does this workshop include?
This interactive workshop uses a wide range of formats including video, demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and role-play. The workshop, with Manual, covers the basic economic issues of mediation. The training focuses on the skills involved in becoming an effective mediator in the financial areas of divorce.

Some of the many components in this training include:
  • the core mediation paradigms for dealing with conflict
  • advocacy and empowerment
  • mediating alimony: the hardest issue
  • dealing with stock options, pensions, and taxes in divorce
  • tips on successfully mediating the division of assets
  • software programs for working with property and finances (FinPlan, Equal Shares, SASI-CALC).
  • using caucus effectively
  • working with attorneys in mediation
  • apologies: their surprising importance
  • how co-mediation adds value
  • creative settlement strategies
  • taxes in divorce
  • writing competent agreements

and more.

The workshop includes role-plays so that each participant can practice and develop his/her skills.

For Maryland residents, this workshop will meet the 20-hour requirement for marital property training under Rule 17-104c(2) of the Court of Appeals in Maryland for those wishing to be approved for court-referred mediations.

A certificate of completion, suitable for framing, will be issued to you upon successful completion of and full attendance at the training course.
